I feel a bit more at ease knowing that this bill has not been passed by the house. In class I can now sit with a piece of mind knowing that there won't be a student who has a gun, and there wont be a problem with what if there is someone in here with a weapon and he is displeased with a grade or has a heated discussion with a fellow classmate or teacher. The author does a good job with telling us about how this happy moment has happened, well happy for me. I feel he did a good job in explaining how the bill was pulled and even though it was going to get passed that Sen Zaffirini pulled it anyways. He also told us the amendment that Sen Wentworth would make to the bill and what it would exclude and include. Texas Senate takes up another round of guns debate this the name of the article if you wish to read further and it's at Statesman.com

Thus There is No More Bill.
As I have talked about in a previous blog post i'm not all that comfortable with letting individual carry concealed handguns on school grounds. On May 3 an article was posted regarding a bill that was amended by Sen, Jeff Wentworth R-Laredo to allow concealed handguns on school grounds, the amendment would only apply to public schools. This new amendment to the bill would not include private institutions like Baylor University and Texas Christian University and according to Sen Wentworth it would also save the other higher education but according to Sen Ziffrini thats not enough for her to let them add that amendment to her bill because she opposes letting students carry a concealed handgun. The bill was pulled by Sen Ziffirini and was ''left in limbo'' like the author has stated. This bill was not passed by the house but is still left to be voted on by chamber.

On Tuesday May 3, 2011, the "Lupita89 " blog posted up an article titled "Thus There is No More Bill" by Sandra Rangel. The article is about a bill that is up for vote by the chamber and lets students bring guns to school grounds for protection. The gun carrying law will exclude private institutions. The guns would have to be concealed or tucked away underneath the persons clothes.
ReplyDeleteSandra's intended audience are mainly students at public institutions. She say's that she would not like to see this law pass because this would make her feel unsafe on school grounds knowing that student's are walking around school armed. I would have to disagree with her because they are not going to issue a license to anyone. They would first have to go thru a course to get a license to carry the weapon. Than the person would have to purchase the gun. This means that the store would have to do a background check on the individual. So this means that people with bad backgrounds would not get a license. Plus if a person would want to do something bad he would just do it cause hand guns can be canceled with or without a license.
This article was interesting to read because I own a gun and I am thinking of going thru the course. Its good to read about people's opinion on the whole carrying a concealed weapon subject. Like I said before I would be very comfortable with people carrying guns on school grounds.
